It's No Good
Christina Perri House of Blues 5/18/14
The Fray meet and greet 5/30/14 with Jess
The Fray - Red Rocks 6/8/14 with Rhi and Jess!
Gavin Degraw/ Matt Nathanson 6/14/14 with Suzanne
It's No Good!
I know it has been a while since our last installment... but for those of you who know me I have not been home much the last two months... So what have I been doing ? Going to concerts of course. In may the beautiful Karla and I started May off by going with me to see Christina Perri at the House of Blues ! ( thanks to Jessie Elliott!!) This is second time I have had the chance to see Christian Perri in concert. She is so much fun to see. We even got a chance to witness a proposal happen on stage. Someone in my group may have gotten a little misty eyed ( not me ... KARLA!!)
Next was The Fray! So my concert partner in crime Jess had the chance to go to the meet and greet at the Vegas show! It was awkward and amazing. Isaac made a funny comment about how he always feels strange about what to say at these things trying to ease some of the "nerves" we had a fun laugh. Next Joe noticed my music note tattoo and asked if it was a particular song. When I replied it wasn't a specific song he and Isaac began humming a tune trying to make up a song. We chatted about Isaac's new baby and they took a picture with us. I love how funny this band is, they are so gracious . I love when artists don't take themselves to seriously. Next was the shows... two weekends in a row.. Once here and the following weekend at the Red Rocks in Colorado.. I will say the Vegas show was fantastic , but nothing compares to seeing anyone at the Red Rocks. Not to mention it's the Fray's hometown. You will never hear me say a bad thing about Red Rocks venue. It's beautiful my absolute favorite place to see a show..even if it rains EVERYTIME I come for one!!! Thank you so much to Jess Nate, Rhi, and Brad for sitting in the rain with me.
Last concert installment ... Gavin Degraw and Matt Nathonson with the lovely Suzanne! It was at the Mandalay Bay Beach. Matt Nathonson was equal parts talent and humor. The vibe was so much fun. Gavin Degraw, after all these years I still adore his piano fuelled pop songs makes me miss One Tree Hill. Honorable mention to Suzanne for being the person I blame for my concert love... she took me to my very first concert many many moons ago...
So here is your next mix.. It's No Good . I was inspired by the feeling of summer . This is the first CD mix in a long time where I've made it, lived with it, mailed it out , and am still listening to it now. It just feels like a soundtrack to my summer. I hope you feel the same about it. Special mentions come for Ok Honey who we saw open for The Fray . Also somehow Depeche Mode made it on the mix, it was not intentional but somehow a song long past it's prime still makes sense blended in with these new one. Thanks to Jess who requested we add a song by Ingrid Michelson , her songs are always hidden gems . I am very much in love with Ed Sheeran's new album and found a special song that makes me smile .. can anyone say thank you Snow Patrol. Until next time.. keep your ears open and feel free to sent out any request or themes you might want to hear on upcoming mixes...

"We will walk these streets and think of little elves'
April brought some amazing music love for me Thank you so much to Karla, Jess, Rhi for going along with me this month for musical adventures.
Started the month off with the swoon worthy the 1975 at the Brooklyn Bowl. I must say thank you and sorry (not sorry) to Karla for having to deal with my squealing. There was nothing I did not love about the show, a heady mix of teenage angst and boozed up sex sums up this band. You know you are in for a show when the lead singer walks on stage with a bottle of wine in hand and proceeds finish it before the show is half over. It reminds me of doing all those things I swear my mother didn't know I was doing...falling in love with music, running wild, getting into fights and chasing boys. Also I found a note worthy opener White Lies !!! Fantastic .... They make an appearance on this month's mix.
Let's talk about the Brooklyn Bowl.. umm AWESOME. It's fairly small venue but oh so much fun. Part bowling alley, bar, and concert venue. It's intimate and cozy. So this leads me to the second show O. A. R. Although many of my friends have loved them for years, this is the first time I've gotten to see them. O. A. R. is one of those bands that throws down a feeling of a college . Just a bunch of guys hanging out singing songs and drinking some beer. Thanks to Rhi and Rene for a fun night out .
The best for last.. I know I'm going out of order But Bastille was a show stopper. From beginning to end this is possibly the BEST show I have seen in my life. That is a huge statement. I was not alone in that feeling Jess (the cousin) my concert partner in crime was along side me was left in shock at what we watched unfold in front of us. The show itself was crafted perfectly, from stage lighting, song arrangement, and presence. All on point. Not only do I have immense love of the musical talent of this group, I was in awe of the ability to preform better in person than any recording I have heard of them. I could ramble on for days how this show made me feel repeating the same sentiment till I am exhausted of words. This is what I love about music, the feeling this show gave me is why I'm willing to stand in a crowd of strangers over and over just to get a glimpse of something like this happening..
SO till next time ...

I love you because we hate the same stuff..
March Madness .. That's what I had, blessed with three wonderful concerts, the Neighborhood, Imagine Dragons, and John Legend.
The Neighbourhood was good, I did have a moment where I thought I was a little old compared to the rest of the crowd. But who cares... there is nothing better than a loud Saturday night surrounded by music and people.
This girl is not afraid to travel for a concert, adding Denver to my list of musical destinations. Special thanks to the cousin for toughing it out during our Imagine Dragons adventure. . I'm so glad you finally got to see what I was talking about. Radioactive.. NO JOKE!
If anyone has the opportunity to see John Legend.. DO IT! From start to end he was fantastic. The man can belt it out, play the piano, and work a crowd. Also for my Vegas people if you get a chance to go to the Smith Center do it! The combination of the artist and venue places this concert experience was I'd say top 10 for me...

Big shout out .. once again to Karla Vega for putting me onto St. Vincent. Also for those my age I snuck in the Smiths . Here is a challenge: if you can tell me of TWO covers that exist of HOW Soon is NOW? out there a special treat will be yours. Here is a hint for one.. it was used in a popular show that is no longer running but starred Alyssa Milano... the other will take some work . While on the British invasion topic I am currently OBSESSED with the 1975 no real reason other than I just am. So let me know what you think.. feel free to send me what you are listening to, hating , loving, inspired by. I'm always looking for MORE...

Set on SHUFFLE!
What happens when you just start to overload on life? Well for me I plug in the ears and turn it up!! This mix seems to be made of a little old and a little new .. not to mention WTF! But some of you have had the chance to endure the shuffle mode with me before ( J-MO , JLT) So for those who haven't just trust that sometimes I have a plan in mind but this is not one of those times.
I need to say thank you to Miss Karla(Vega) for posting Broken Bells Holding On for Life. Excellent snag, I'm a little jealous I didn't find them first, but so glad I didn't. I depend on my music buddies to keep me on point! Also thanks to my buddy Rene, we have the appearance of John Legend. As a result of a winter car pool situation I started to get more education. How had I missed this guy for so long. I knew a few of his song, always enjoyed him but now I'm "in pocket".
Here is a little bit of what I have been putting on repeat..The Cars Drive is always reminder of my very best friends. Now don't get me wrong the intention of the song is not really about "friends" but it always makes me love my girls who have seen me through as many dark days as bright and still can stand me . Say It Now by We The Kings... all this song reminds me of is driving at night, windows rolled down, chasing the stars.. To Make You Feel My Love- First off there are many versions no offense to Trisha Yearwood, Adele, and Bob Dylan but Garth Brooks is the owner of this song. Not only is this in one of my very favorite movies but, it is the version that can bring me to tears every time.
ShamRock!!
In honor of March the second mix is all about the drinking! This one includes many of the suggestions you all made .. All I have to say is it is NOT kid ear friendly and I hope it makes you laugh.

I Sold My Bed, But Not My Stereo..
Life is Beautiful !!!
I have had busy ears this January. I have been immersed in trying to revisit the past , enjoy the now, and leap to the future. I managed to mash together two cd's this month. The first cd yields the fruits of this exploration. I am particularly intrigued by Bad Suns just something grabbed at me when I came across them. Also we have new Zac Brown Band from the Ghrol Sessions. SO it's no surprise I was giddy with joy when Zac Brown and Dave Ghrol joined forces!!!!
The second cd is inspired by a British show called My Mad Fat Diary. This show is about a slightly odd 17 year old girl set in 1997 who is obsessed with music. Well hello have we met? How do you know me so well? The music in the show transports me back to hanging out listening to music, running wild with the guys, and other mischief we won't get into . This is just another reminder of how music not only shapes you as you grow but can take you right back to that time and those feelings! I hope this finds your inner 17 year old and tells her/him to turn the music up !!

Pushing play!
So life is a mix-tape? Mine is!
A little over a year ago what started as a simple act of sharing my homemade cd's with just a few friends has started to blossom into a list of followers. Thanks to the encouragement of my friends and a fair amount of "nagging" I am starting a blog! To create a place where I can share with you my playlists, random thoughts, and other nonsense. I am hoping that if I am fortunate enough to have followers that they will feel free to share thoughts and inspired suggestions.
Here we go!
In honor of January we must take a moment to discuss a very important event.. the Grammys. This is the time where we get to see what they are calling the best of the last year. Once again I have made a mix of the year's nominees. I know some of these have made it onto my past mixes!
Locked Out of Heaven- Bruno Mars
Blurred Lines- Robin Thicke
Royals- Lorde
Radioactive- Imagine Dragons
Get Luck - Daft Punk
Roar- Katy Perry
Mirrors- Justin Timberlake
Brave- Sara Bareilles
Same Love- Macklemore
Retrograde- James Blake
Swimming Pools- Kendrick Lamar
Lego House- Ed Sheeran
Just Give Me a Reason- P!nk
Begin Again- Taylor Swift
Mine Would Be You - Blake Shelton
Merry Go 'Round- Kacey Musgraves
Highway Don't Care- Tim McGraw
Take a Little Ride- Jason Aldean
Honestly speaking a great portion of this list makes me very HAPPY!
Standouts on the list would have to be first Sara Bareilles what can I knot say about her? Brave captures so much of what there is to love about her. It is possible I am showing my bias, an unexplainable love for a chick and a piano. Yeah I'm a sucker! This pop anthem has the chops in my opinion. She is just so many of the things that I love about music.
Secondly I come to Ed Sheeran. The first time he came onto my radar he was opening for Snow Patrol. Ed and a guitar low- tech, gritty production but the words and voice were there. Once the release of his full length CD came out I fell in love. Lego House shows his quirky and smart approach to lyrics .
Lastly, Imagine Dragons. I have been so impressed with them. What started with a band from Vegas that I had heard about but never managed to see ( yeah sometimes I just suck) turned into a hidden gem snuck onto a cd by my cousin Jess ( someone who will no doubt make future appearances in my blog because she shares my love of music and is always up for going on concert adventures but I digress...) turned into a chance to see them at the Life is Beautiful Festival. It became one of those moments when you are seeing a band play and you realize they are better than on radio, so rare these days! Radioactive showcases all of the elements that make them so very exciting to listen to. Just you ask my buddy Karla how exciting !
Thanks for reading, thanks for listening, thanks for doing what you do. I hope this experiment grows .
Here is to too much music!
